No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure; but those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful."

"But in truth, they are accused and we lead dignified lives, who, in the face of present pleasures, endure and corrupt those pains and troubles, except for those who are in the position of not providing, similar are those who are guilty of neglecting the duties of the mind, that is, the work of escaping pain and sorrow. And indeed, the distinction of things is easy and clear. For in free time, when we are free to choose, nothing prevents us from doing what we most desire, all pleasure must be assumed, all pain must be repelled. However, there are times when duties or needs arise that often lead to rejecting pleasures and not avoiding pain. Therefore, in this matter, it is held by a wise choice, that either rejecting greater pleasures or enduring more severe pains must be avoided."
